A Note on the Effects of Copper Impurities in Distilled Water on Growth of Plants.

چکیده
The observation was made in certain controlled nutrient solution studies with sugar beet and barley, that toxicity was associated with the supply of distilled water. The toxic element was referred to copper. The condition arose from storage of the distilled water in tin-lined copper tanks in which areas of exposed copper were evident. Direct analysis, by the colorimetric sodium diethyldithiocarbamate method (2),' showed that the water issuing from the tin-lined copper still was relatively low in copper content, but increased in concentration the longer the water was retained in the defective reservoir. The approximate concentrations of copper which may be found in distilled water and artificial nutrient solutions are presented in table I.

Influence of Copper and Zinc on Growth, Metal Accumulation and Chemical Composition of Essential Oils in Sweet Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.)
Background: Biosynthesis and metabolism of phytochemicals in medicinal and aromatic plants are vigorously affected by different abiotic elicitors including chemicals. Objective: This experiment was designed to investigate the effects of three levels of copper sulfate (Cu: 0, 5, 25 mg kg-1) and zinc sulfate (Zn: 0, 10, 50 mg kg-1) and their combinations on yield, chemical compositions of esse...
متن کاملOptical Opacity of Laser Induced Plasma in Distilled Water with NaCl and TiO2 Nanoparticles Impurities
In this paper, the dynamic behavior of laser induced optical breakdown in impure water was studied by using a pump- probe technique. The plasma was induced by a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser pulse (with pulse duration ~10 ns) in distilled water with two types of impurities: (I) a solution (highly diluted salt water as a conductor) and (II) a colloidal (TiO2 in colloidal nanoparticle form as a dielectric...
متن کاملCopper Effects on Growth Parameters of Hollyhock (Althaea rosea L.)
Copper is an essential micronutrient for plant growth which is involved in many metabolic processes. However excessive amounts of copper may cause environmental pollution. With an increase in the contamination of urban areas with heavy metals, more attention should be paid to the role of ornamental plants in removing pollutants from the soils. The effects of heavy metals on the growth parameter...
متن کاملEffect of foliar application of Jasmonic Acid (JA) on essential oil yield and its compositions of Thymus daenensis Celak
Background & aim: Recent researches have been done on effects of plant growth regulators (PGR) on growth and production of different crops whose results indicate the effectiveness of most of these hormones on qualitative and quantitative growth of herbs. The application of regulators and inhibitors of growth on herbs may, in addition to growth, also lead to secondary metabolites stimulation. Ja...
